The Facebook Data Center in Los Lunas includes a myriad of buildings and has offered robust and long-term employment for the members of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 412, Albuquerque, NM. Southland is the mechanical contractor for the Facebook Los Lunas data center, and they procured buildings three and four, along with the administration building. The total workforce is 1,200, with about 25 to 30 pipefitters and 20 plumbers.

Facebook has multiple data centers, and virtually all of the components for the Los Lunas data center are being prefabricated. A signatory contractor of Local 412, Yearout Mechanical, Inc., has been fabricating for the Los Lunas project for two years. Evaporative cooling systems (swamp coolers) are what Facebook is using for the data center buildings. The sandstorms in Los Lunas can be brutal, so the evaporative cooling system allows for the sand to be sifted out as the water trickles down the CELdek® cooling pads.
