Build Your Future with a UA Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship

A career in the piping trades starts with the United Association’s Registered Apprenticeship Program, which is your pathway to a rewarding, high-demand profession in industries such as plumbing, pipefitting, HVACR, welding, and fire protection.

UA apprenticeships combine paid, on-the-job training with classroom instruction, setting the standard for excellence in the skilled trades across North America. Whether you’re just starting, changing careers, or transitioning from military service, the UA’s Registered Apprenticeship Program is your ticket to a brighter, more secure future.

Apprentices learn from experienced journeymen and certified instructors, gaining both the technical expertise and real-world experience needed to succeed. Upon completion, graduates earn industry-recognized credentials and enjoy opportunities for advancement and specialization.

Programs for Veterans

The UA proudly supports military veterans and active-duty service members through specialized apprenticeship pathways. The UA Veterans in Piping (VIP) Program provides free, industry-recognized training in welding, HVACR, and fire suppression for those preparing to transition to civilian life.

UA VIP graduates are guaranteed job placement and a spot in a UA-registered apprenticeship, giving veterans a head start on a stable, high-paying career in the union pipe trades.

Earn While You Learn

One of the greatest advantages of a UA apprenticeship is the ability to earn a competitive wage and benefits while you learn your trade. Unlike traditional college students, UA apprentices receive regular pay increases as their skills progress, along with healthcare, retirement and other union benefits. The Earn-While-You-Learn model means you can support yourself and your family while building valuable skills, without accumulating student debt.

Debt Free College

UA apprentices can also pursue a college degree at little or no cost while completing their apprenticeship training. Many UA training centers partner with community colleges and universities, allowing apprentices to earn college credits for their classroom and on-the-job learning. This unique opportunity means you can graduate as a journeyman and be just a few credits away from a college degree with zero student loan debt, preparing you for future leadership roles or further advancement in your trade.

STEM and Apprenticeship

The UA’s Registered Apprenticeship Program is a true STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) career path. Apprentices use advanced technologies, digital tools and problem-solving skills every day, whether programming building automation systems, working with cutting-edge welding equipment or implementing sustainable building solutions. The UA’s focus on STEM education ensures apprentices are ready to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry and pursue lifelong learning.
