Diversity in the UA
The United Association (UA) is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve across North America.
Diversity strengthens our union, drives innovation, and creates new opportunities for all members. By openly recruiting women, minorities, and underrepresented groups, the UA ensures our membership mirrors the vibrant neighborhoods and industries where we live and work, making our organization stronger and more resilient for the future.
A Commitment to Representation
The UA’s dedication to diversity goes beyond words—it is embedded in our recruitment, training, and organizing efforts. We actively seek to break down barriers and provide people of all backgrounds with access to rewarding careers in the skilled trades.
Our goal is to ensure that everyone—regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or background—has the opportunity to thrive within the UA and contribute to our legacy of excellence.
Recruiting and Organizing
Diversity in the UA starts with intentional recruiting and organizing strategies. We partner with schools, community organizations, and workforce development programs to reach women, minorities, and young people who may not have considered a career in the trades.
Our organizing efforts focus on building relationships, sharing the benefits of union membership, and providing accessible pathways to apprenticeship and journey-level status. The UA’s inclusive approach is designed to remove barriers, create welcoming environments, and ensure that every member feels valued and respected.
Women in the UA
Women are essential to the future of the pipe trades, and the UA is proud to support and empower tradeswomen at every stage of their careers. Through mentorship programs, leadership development, and a supportive union culture, women in the UA find the resources and encouragement needed to succeed and advance.
Our members enjoy equal pay for equal work, world-class benefits, and growth opportunities in every industry sector. The UA celebrates the achievements of tradeswomen and is committed to increasing female representation in every Local Union across North America.
Tradeswomen Build Nations
The UA actively participates in and supports the Tradeswomen Build Nations Conference—the largest annual gathering of union construction workers in North America.
This event brings together women from all building trades to share knowledge, network, and inspire the next generation of leaders. By engaging with national initiatives such as Tradeswomen Build Nations, the UA demonstrates its commitment to visibility, advocacy and advancement for women in the skilled trades. Our members are encouraged to attend, learn, and bring back best practices to their Local Unions.
A Welcoming Union for All
The UA is proud of its diverse membership and remains dedicated to building an organization where everyone has a voice and a place to succeed. We recognize that the future of the skilled trades depends on our ability to embrace inclusion and champion equity at every level.
By continuing to recruit, organize, and support members from all walks of life, the UA is setting the standard for diversity in the building trades.
