Statement by John J. Murphy Denouncing Nixon's Plan on Gas Fired Plants

Statement by John J. Murphy, International Representative for New York for the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Denouncing Nixon's Plan on Gas Fired Plants

Cynthia Nixon's recent statement denouncing gas fired plants is demagoguery at its best. Her
political attack on Governor Andrew Cuomo illustrates an unrealistic agenda that jeopardizes
the reliability of our energy sources to power our economy and to provide the daily amenities
that make our lives easier. Furthermore, her policies would be job killers for the hard-working
tradespeople of New York. High efficiency, low emission clean natural gas plants supply much
needed power to communities in the state while providing thousands of well-paying jobs to
New York families.

We can all agree that climate change is real. Governor Cuomo has led the way with a commonsense approach to energy. As the state boldly moves towards renewable energy sources such as off shore wind, solar systems and heat pump technology, new clean energy plants ensure that we provide reliable, affordable energy to the residents of New York. Politicians should never put politics ahead of the needs of our citizens. Leaders lead. Governor Cuomo is doing just that.
