VIP Graduations at Camp Lejeune & Fort Campbell


Today, 14 marines will graduate from the welding program at Camp Lejeune and 20 will graduate from the welding program at Fort Campbell. Both groups began classes in early September 2015.

This is the 4th welding class to graduate at Camp Lejeune. The ceremony will be held at the Ball Center, Building 425 on base. The instructors at Camp Lejeune are Brothere Dave Porter and Brother Billy Platt. Brother Dave Porter will Emcee the ceremony. Brigadier General Weidley will make welcome remarks and MG(R) Matt Caulfield will be the keynote speaker. 

This is the 3rd welding class at Fort Campbell. The ceremony will be held at SSG Glenn H. English, Jr. Army Education Center located at 202 Bastogne Avenue on Fort Campbell. UA VIP Coordinator Mike Hazard will emcee the ceremony, Command Sergeant Major Gabriel A. Espinosa JR. will provide opening remarks, MG(R) Andy Aadland and International Representative David Posey will speak on behalf of the UA.

Each graduate of the VIP Program goes on to continue their training as apprentices in UA Local Unions while working for signatory contractors. 

The VIP Program offers high-quality skills training and jobs in the pipe trades to active duty military personnel preparing to leave the service. Participants in the program receive 18 weeks of accelerated skills training in either welding, HVACR or sprinklerfitting, and earn industry-recognized certifications and college credit as part of their training. Upon graduation, participants gain direct entry into UA apprenticeship programs, which are recognized in the industry as the best in the business.

The program is currently being offered at Camp Lejeune (NC), Camp Pendleton (CA), Joint Base Lewis-McChord (WA), Fort Carson (CO), Fort Hood (TX), Fort Campbell (KY), and Fort Sill (OK).
